How Hofstra Athletics and James C. Metzger Worked Together To Advance Hofstra Athletics

In December 2011 James C. Metzger, a former Hofstra lacrosse player, extended his impact beyond Hofstra lacrosse. Metzger signed a $1.5 million pledge to support all of Hofstra's student-athletes, not just the men's lacrosse program. His gift marked the largest commitment in department history. In recognition of his generosity, Hofstra Athletics has renamed the Capital Improvements Fund, the designation for half of Metzger's gift, the James C. Metzger Fund for Capital Improvements. The fund was created by Director of Athletics Jack Hayes when he arrived at the University as a reserve fund to address capital upgrades to athletics facilities. Since the fund's inception, resources have been used to renovate strength and conditioning centers, sports medicine rooms and add lights to Hofstra Softball Stadium. With the additional revenue from the gift, athletic programs will now be able to raise half the funds necessary to complete approved capital projects and have the total raised matched by the Metzger Fund to complete the project......
